Flower Garden Quilt – English Paper Pieced

Inspired by my garden this year, my new Flower Garden Quilt showcases all the beauty of the English garden. My garden, through the seasons has had gorgeous, bright and happy tulips, cornflowers, salvia, cosmos, dahlias and sweet peas.  Liberty fabrics design so many beautiful and classic floral prints that it was the perfect inspiration for a quilt.  I’ve loved being outside in the garden more during lockdown and growing my garden from seed to full bloom has been one of the most satisfying things for me this year.  I’m delighted to bring you my Flower Garden Quilt inspired by this experience.

Alice Caroline Quilt BOMs 2021

Every month you will receive a beautiful box containing instructions, Liberty Tana Lawn fabrics and pre-cut papers to make 2 – 3 English Paper Pieced (EPP) blocks per month, over 12 months, building into your own gorgeous Liberty quilt. Each block forms a hexagon which then joins together at the end with the other blocks to make the finished quilt. Each block will be named after one of the beautiful plants in my garden.  In the whole quilt you will receive approximately 165 different prints. As the months progress I will add in the loveliest fabrics from Liberty 2021 classic and seasonal prints, and Alice Caroline exclusively designed prints, making it a unique heirloom quilt.

Chocolate Box Quilt – Foundation Paper Pieced Quilt

Alice Caroline Quilt BOMs 2021

Designed for Alice Caroline by Laura Antoinette this modern and graphic quilt is beautifully vibrant.  Within each block, the decadent “chocolate” sits within its pretty paper case and tempts you to try its flavours and textures.  Using Liberty Tana Lawn fabric, the two-tone chocolate uses colourful Liberty designs which is then surrounded by plain white cotton and Sashiko style stitching to showcase the patterned fabrics beautifully.

There are 49 full blocks in total in the whole quilt and you will receive approximately 98 different prints from the Liberty Classics, Classics 40th Anniversary collection and our Alice Caroline exclusive collections.

Laura Antoinette says “I was inspired partly by looking at luxury chocolate boxes but also by the artwork by Anne-Marie Coolick in her polka daub series of paintings which really helped to inform the mood of the quilt.  I also love to imagine the flavour and texture behind the wrapper in a box of chocolates – each block will be named after one of these chocolates.”

Every month you will receive a beautiful box containing step-by-step instructions, full sized pattern and Liberty Tana Lawn fabric, to make 4 ‘Foundation Paper Pieced’ blocks for this stunning quilt.  Each block forms a square which then joins together with the other blocks at the end to make the finished quilt.  You will also (rather excitingly) receive a different bar of high-quality chocolate from the Love Cocoa company each month.

The blocks are made using the technique called ‘Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP).  This is where the quilt block pattern is printed on a piece of paper.  All of this will be provided for you and you simply sew the fabric onto the paper tracing the printed lines.  This project is perfect for a beginner quilter as the pattern is really easy to follow and means you are only ever sewing straight lines.  FPP gets perfect points really easily within your patchwork which is much harder to achieve with other techniques.  This makes it really satisfying as a quilting method.
