Beautiful Liberty Kimono Top – AW20

Anna JP from the office has made this beautiful Liberty Kimono Top.  She’s used a Elm House Tencel fabric from the new AW20 collection – Private View.     This is what Anna had to say about the make.  “I was so happy to learn that Liberty’s new seasonal collection included some prints on the Tencel fabric base, and even more excited when I saw that my favourite print from the whole collection was to be one of them. I love Tencel – it’s the stuff of my favourite shirt – and so Alice and I agreed we’d give the …

Mitsi Mustard Liberty Shirt

Anna JP from the office has made this lovely Mitsi Mustard Liberty shirt for her son.  It uses one of our exclusive fabrics from 2019 in one of the most popular Liberty prints.  The Mitsi mustard design is inspired by Japanese cherry blossom.  As Anna says, it looks rather like the hawthorn ‘may’ flower that we see here in the spring hedgerows. Here’s what Anna had to say about the project.  “Following the success of Isaac’s “Walter+Gilbert” Christmas prezzie shirt, I was interested to see if I would enjoy the sewing process more if I had less of a pattern-matching challenge. …

Liberty Baby Romper Suit

Kathy from the studio has made this adorable Liberty Baby Romper Suit.  She has used Liberty Tana Lawn in Theo. The fabric choice for this romper suit is perfect.  Theo is a hand-drawn print created by Tamara de Peon and was inspired by Lewis Carroll’s beloved classic Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.  The design incorporates colourful creatures running, jumping and hopping around the fabric. I asked Kathy about her Liberty Baby Romper Suit.   What was your inspiration for making it? “The new addition to the Knight family.  We already knew it was going to be a little boy and I …

Liberty Scrubs and Bags for the NHS

The Alice Caroline team have been busy making Liberty scrubs and bags for the NHS.   We are all trying to help out as much as we can in a huge community effort against a terrible situation.  If there is one thing this has taught us here, it’s that sewing is really important in the lives of many people. I asked Anna about making scrubs.  “One of my neighbours works at my daughter’s school who had been very active in making visors for the NHS.  She knew that I worked at Alice Caroline so asked if I had any spare …

Paisley and Plains Liberty Quilt

Anna JP from the office has made this gorgeous Paisley and Plains Liberty Quilt.  It uses a quilt-as-you-go method of quilting which is fun and really easy.  If you are new to quilting or have never tried it before, then this is a great way to start. Here’s what Anna had to say about making the quilt. The fabrics:  “I used Liberty width of fabric x 4” for all the strips, so the finished quilt is width of fabric wide x about 200cm long. It took 25 strips in total although the plain colours I divided into narrower strips to …

Lucy from the studio made this beautiful Liberty blouse for her mum for Mother’s Day a few weeks ago.  It uses a gorgeous Liberty fabric called Love Lily C and Burda pattern 6632.  The blouse looks lovely – perfect for the warm spring days we are having in the UK at the moment. I asked Lucy about the make.  What was the inspiration for the top? “As a keen sewer and lover of Liberty fabrics herself, my mum was almost as excited as I was when I started working at Alice Caroline!  She used to take me to Libertys in …

Liberty Rainbow for the NHS

Dawn from the studio has made her very own Liberty Rainbow for the NHS.  I love the vibrant colours in this rainbow and it’s great that she’s been able to use up some of her stash to make it. It’s hanging on her front door ready for the ‘big cheer’ for workers of the NHS and other key-workers tonight. Dawn told me about what inspired her to make this lovely rainbow.  “I was inspired by all the lovely rainbows the children in our village had hanging in their windows so decided to quilt a Liberty rainbow in support of the …

Liberty Cat Bag

Julie from the studio has made this cute Liberty Cat Bag for her daughter’s cat Coco.  My cat Twig is modelling it here! Julie has used a fabulous Tana Lawn print called Willoughby Mews C but there are two other lovely colour ways of this print too – a vintage pale yellow and blue.  The lining uses Liberty Tana Lawn Stone T plain fabric which I love. Willoughby Mews is from the “From London With Love’ collection and is based on a favourite cat that has raided it’s owners accessories cupboard.   It’s such a fun print. Julie said ” …

Miniature English Paper Piecing

Anna made her mum this cute pencil case using Miniature English Paper Piecing for Mothering Sunday.  Since making the Radiant Stars Quilt Anna is constantly looking for new things to EPP.  These really tiny but very cute 1/2″ hexagons take a while to turn into a ‘thing’ but its such a lovely calming experience ‘slow sewing’ projects like this. Here’s what Anna had to say about the make:  ” I wanted to make my mum something home-made for Mothering Sunday.  She loves art and drawing so I thought I’d make her something bright and cheery to put her pens and …
