She will be sharing her memories and thoughts about her design process and how her watercolours are turned into beautiful Liberty fabric designs.  Join Alice and Rachel for an audience within their inner design sanctums. Rachel is a well-established natural history illustrator.  She has a longstanding relationship with Kew Gardens and spent many years illustrating pressed and dried specimens within the Herbarium.

Rachel studied at the Royal College of Art for her MA and PhD and has been awarded four gold medals from the Royal Horticultural Society. Rachel’s paintings have been adapted into some beautiful Liberty fabric designs.  She has had three solo shows in London and has been part of numerous group exhibitions worldwide.

Rachel paints in watercolour and aims to depict natural history subjects with minute detail in interesting and dynamic compositions. She has recently moved away from London to the Suffolk countryside where she is enjoying being closer to her subject matters.

Rachel’s paintings have been used by Liberty Art fabrics in four fabric designs to date one of these fabrics ‘Floral Eve’ was in turn used by Vivien Westwood for a dress in her Summer 2013 collection.

In 2011 Rachel’s painting ‘Bean Painting, Specimens from the Leguminosae family’ was selected to represent contemporary natural history painting in the ‘Watercolour’ exhibition at the Tate Britain. Rachel’s paintings are held in many notable collections worldwide.

In recent years Rachel has produced two watercolour painting books and has illustrated the book ‘Forage’ by Liz Knight.
