Kathy from the studio has made this Beautiful Liberty Lap Quilt for her friend who is moving away. She’s used a lovely combination of teal colours alongside making EPP jewels in the alternate blocks. I asked Kathy about the quilt.
What inspired you to make this lovely quilt? “I loved the colour way that Anna made for her quilt and I decided I wanted to recreate this for my friend Lisa. I loved the simplicity of the design – it’s a 16 patch block (made using 15 different Liberty fabrics). My good friend Lisa is going to live in Cornwall and will be spending lots of time travelling in her motorhome so I have made it for that.”
Is this the first time you have used Jewels for EPP? “Yes. I was hoping that they would look like flowers but it didn’t look quite right so I went for the stars effect instead (jewels can make both) and accentuated the central hexagon too. I wanted a clean look to my appliquéd shapes and the white background has certainly given this. Each shape is made and then appliquéd onto the background whiter square.”
How did you choose the fabrics? “Choosing the fabrics took me ages. I started from those in Anna’s Quilt and then chose blenders. I knew I wanted to go from light to dark to show a range of beautiful tones. I made a star of each of the fabrics using 1″ Jewels and 1″ hexagons.”
