Lara has made these Beautiful Liberty Pyjamas using one of the fabrics from the Christmas Liberty fabric collection. These are completely adorable and will make a great Christmas present.
The fabric Lara has used is called ‘Liberty Christmas Y’
This range of fabrics were designed by Liberty to celebrate the festive season. It was inspired by the famous Liberty London store. The wooden panelling at the store has animals carved within it. This gorgeous fabric shows these cheeky animals ‘helping’ with seasonal preparations.
I asked Lara about the sewing project. “I made my own pattern from an existing pair of PJ’s but there are lots of patterns available to buy. I’m always scanning Pinterest for inspiration and decided to make an appliquéd top to go with the pyjama bottoms. I absolutely love the animals in the fabric. it’s a bit unusual and not classic Christmas but does have some lovely Christmas elements such as the trees and stars. I wanted the pyjamas to be worn all year round and so it’s a great choice for children’s clothes. I bought a set of 3 vest tops from the supermarket so that I could make mix and match tops. I’m working on the other two ready to give them to my daughter Sofia as a Christmas present. I’ve also bought the red and blue colour way of the same fabric to make my boys a pair to open up on Christmas Eve.”
I’ve used 1 metre of fabric to make both the top and bottoms. I picked out one of the blues from the fabric and top stitched the hems and button holes for the tied waste. This makes the waste adjustable and not only gives them a longer lifespan but also makes them more comfortable to wear. To make the stags head, I drew a pattern, ironed Bondaweb onto the fabric and cut the stags head shape out of this. I stitched the detail onto the head before applying the Bondaweb, but in hindsight, I would do this stage after attaching it to the vest top as it was very fiddly getting the Bondaweb backing off the fabric.”
I hope that you feel inspired to give a hand made gift this Christmas.
