Radiant Stars Liberty Quilt

It’s finally finished – Anna has finished making the Radiant Stars Liberty Quilt this week.  After 15 months of very happy, slow sewing the quilt can be shown in all of its glory. I asked Anna a bit about making this gorgeous quilt.  Here’s what she had to say.  “I’ve throughly enjoyed making this quilt.  Each month we spent a very happy hour choosing the fabrics from new collections, our Alice Caroline Exclusives and Liberty Classics.  Then I would eagerly take the fabric home and get stitching. Each block would take around 2 hours to sew together but I would …

Liberty Quilt – Jewel Palace BOM Progress

Lara from the studio is making the Liberty Quilt Jewel Palace Quilt BOM as a little bit of sewing fun.  Each month, she’s sewing the blocks together so that we can show you the beautiful quilt as it unfolds. It’s a month by month English Paper Piecing project that will grow into a beautiful Liberty quilt. I asked Lara if she was enjoying the sew along.  This is what she had to say. “I’m thoroughly enjoying the project and am finding it really therapeutic.  Once my children have gone to bed, out comes my sewing box.  I sit and sew …

Quilt SOS Visit to The SOS Children’s Village of Islice

We’ve recently arrived back from Latvia to deliver the Quilt SOS quilts to the children of the SOS Children’s Village in Islice.  Below is our story of the trip.   We took 65 beautiful quilts, made by our lovely customers, and personally delivered them to the children. Each year we choose a village run by the international charity SOS Children’s Villages.  We then coordinate the making of enough quilts so that every child in the village receives a beautiful hand-made gift of a quilt. We are always overwhelmed by the loving generosity of our customers,  a few made multiple quilts …

Charity Liberty Quilts Made by The Dulwich Quilters

When I took a phone call from Jenny Strong earlier on this year asking if her quilting group ‘The Dulwich Quilters’ could make Charity Liberty Quilts for the Alice Caroline Quilt SOS project, I was delighted.  Jenny mentioned that one of the quilters in her group had sadly passed away last year and left a large Liberty fabric stash for them to use for charitable causes.  Sheila Conway’s fabric stash has been put to a fantastic use in these 7 stunning quilts which will be personally hand delivered to the children in Latvia later on this year. A couple of …

Log Cabin Quilt in Liberty

Veronica Greenslade from the Lewes Sewing Bees has made this completely gorgeous Log Cabin Quilt in Liberty.  Last year I asked the Lewes Sewing Bees if they would make some summer blog projects and they didn’t disappoint.  So, I thought I’d ask them again. This is the first of the beautiful things that the Bees have made.   Veronica talks about her quilt here. Why did you choose the fabrics? “I chose the pinks and greens because I thought they would make a fresh yet warm summer quilt to use in the garden, thrown over a bench or as a …

Top Tips For English Paper Piecing

I’ve put together some Top Tips For English Paper Piecing.  I’ve become obsessed with English Paper Piecing recently. It’s known as ‘EPP’ in the business and is such a lovely way to sew. For those of you who know nothing about EPP, then it is the art of cutting beautiful fabric into a wide variety of different shapes, wrapping them in paper and then sewing them back together again in many different designs.  Don’t worry about the paper, as once you have sewn around all of the sides of the fabric piece, you remove the papers and can use these …

Perfect English Paper Piecing

I love Perfect English Paper Piecing and have recently become quite obsessed with the technique.  I’ve designed a few projects for the Sewing Quarter.  Dawn from the studio decided to make her own version of the Snowflake Quilt that I designed for them.  She saw it as an excellent way to use up left over fabrics.  I never waste any Liberty fabric – it’s far too beautiful to throw any away.  EPP is such a versatile way of using it up. I asked Dawn about her Perfect English Paper Piecing.  “I’ve not done EPP before.  I’ve made some granny’s flowers …

Gorgeous Liberty Quilt As You Go Quilt

Anna JP has made this Gorgeous Liberty Quilt using a combination of the two latest Liberty fabric collections.  It has beautiful fabrics from both the Classics 40th anniversary collection and the SS19 seasonal collection. The Quilt as you go technique is really simple.  It’s a great way of getting a quilt result in quilting.  The method means that you have a backing piece of fabric (right side down), place your wadding on top of that and then quilt your panels onto the front.  In this case it is strips of whole width of fabric.    Here are some of Anna’s …
