Cinderella Liberty Dress – Made With Stunning Irma Fabric

So, we have finally made the Cinderella Liberty Dress with the simply stunning Liberty Irma fabric.  We have been planning these for such a long time (well ever since the Disney film came out last year) and they have finally been made, worn, loved and whirled and twirled in.  The dress is seen in some of the early scenes in the Disney film when Cinderella is growing up – we spotted the Liberty Irma fabric immediately!

The Making:  Anna and I have had such fun making these beautiful dresses for our little girls – yes we have been sewing whilst drinking bubbly and eating chocolate!

Handy hint – wash hands after eating yummy chocolate before you touch the beautiful Irma Liberty fabric – the two don’t go together very well!

We had two sewing evenings to make the dresses.  They were such fun and we gave the finished dresses as birthday presents to the girls.  They were a real hit and it was so lovely to give a home-made dress – just seeing the look on their faces when they opened the parcel was priceless.  Very happy mummies too!

We went to the glorious Hidcote Manor Gardens to photograph the girls in their beautiful dresses.  There is not a better garden location in the Cotswolds than Hidcote with its stunning herbaceous borders.

Hidcote is now world famous for its beautiful design and plantings which were the brain child of Lawrence Johnstone, the brave soldier turned talented gardener and intrepid plant hunter who made Hidcote his home.  Today, the gardens attract thousands of visitors every year to see the wonderful colour of the borders.  We had a great time chasing the girls around the intricate pathways to try and get a great photo which captures the loveliness of these dresses.  The beautiful colours of flowers in the borders made the perfect backdrop! We feel very lucky to live close by to this wonderful garden.

The Pattern:

We used ‘New Look pattern 6118’ for the beautiful Cinderella Liberty Dress which was very similar to the one worn by young Cinderella in the latest Disney film, with puff sleeves and gathered waistline.  After watching the film and spotting the Liberty Irma dress we hatched a plan to make matching dresses for our girls.  The girls have known each other since birth and love having matching dresses to skip and dance in – this was a perfect choice.

The Fabric:

We used Liberty Irma for the Cinderella Liberty Dress – this is such a beautiful print from Liberty of London depicting watercolour florals from the Spring / Summer 2013 collection.  It has been digitally printed to retain exact brush strokes and the tiniest pencil marks.  Euphorbia, poppies, astrantia and iberis create a delicate ethereal meadow.  The fabric was chosen for the dress in the Disney film production – a great choice which matches so well with English meadows.
