Gorgeous Liberty Nightdress

Susanna Burton from the Lewes Sewing Bees has made this Gorgeous Liberty Nightdress.  It uses the Felicite Lilac from my new Exclusive ‘Butterfly Garden’ collection.  The finished result is simply beautiful and will be a delight to wear.  I think I would swan around in it all day too if I could!  Thank you so much Susanna for sharing your beautiful project with us.

I asked Susanna about her gorgeous make.

We love your nightdress – which pattern did you choose and why?
“Butterick B5792 as I thought the ruffle neckline was very pretty and would add interest.”

Did you alter the pattern at all?
“I followed the pattern exactly as I am not a very experienced dressmaker and the only thing I didn’t add was the eyelet trim with ribbon.  I had help from my lovely friends in the Lewes Sewing Bees who are such talented sewers.  Gill in particular helped me as I hadn’t sewn pintucks before, on a very hot August afternoon, with us both wearing face masks and trying to social distance!  She also showed me how to attach the frill which was quite fiddly and guided me with sewing French seams for the first time.”

What inspired your fabric choice?
“The choice of fabric (Felicite Lilac) for me was easy as I fell in love with it the moment I saw it and knew that it would make a very pretty nightdress.”

Do you love the finished nightdress?
“I absolutely love it and can’t wait to wear it.  I have loved Tana Lawn since I was a child and visited Liberty’s with my mother who made clothes and taught me to cut out and follow a pattern.”

What do you love about sewing?
“I love sewing as it is such a joy to be able to buy a fabric you love and then be able to make it into a garment you can wear.  It is very satisfying.  If you bought a nightdress in the Liberty shop like the one I have made it would probably cost you two to three times as much as it cost to buy the material and make it yourself and you get to have it in the fabric of your choice!”

Thanks again Susanna – it’s beautiful.  I hope you really enjoy wearing it xoxo
