Beautiful Liberty Kaleidoscope Top

Louise from our production studio has jumped back into dressmaking after 40 years and has made this gorgeous Liberty Kaleidoscope Top using Kaleidoscope C from the new Liberty SS22 collection, The Wonderful Fantastical.

Louise talks us through her make: “Here at Alice Caroline, we are often asked whether we would like to make anything when new fabric collections arrive. There are countless examples of beautiful makes by my colleagues that have inspired me, but I have to admit to feeling a little daunted by the fact that I haven’t done any dressmaking for 40 years; the last time I made a blouse, I was at school!”

“What helped me decide to go for it was this gorgeous butterfly Liberty Tana Lawn® print in a colourway I could definitely see myself wearing, plus the Bondi Top pattern from Sew To Grow didn’t look too complicated for a rusty novice! In fact, the pattern and instructions were really easy to follow – I even got adventurous and managed to make my own bias binding and French seams. The contrast panel and bias binding are also Liberty Tana Lawn® (plain Aubergine O), which compliments the colours of the printed fabric so well.”

“I had to make a little alteration to the front neckline for a better fit as suggested by my lovely colleague Laura, which mimics the pleat detail on the back, so I’m super pleased with the result. So pleased in fact, that I’ve ordered some more fabric to have a go at another pattern, so watch this space!”

We can’t wait to see more sewing makes from Louise, especially if they’re as beautiful as this one!
