Liberty Maxi Dress

Claire from the studio has made this beautiful Liberty Maxi Dress using one of the fabrics from the Liberty Champions Collection.  I love the vibrancy of colour in the print she has chosen – it’s perfect for a beautiful summer maxi dress.  I asked her about her sewing project.

Why did you choose this particular fabric?  “I chose the fabric because I love the colours – vibrant pastel colours is what I tend to lean towards.  It also reminded me of ‘Pops and Boo’ a fabric that I loved from the SS15 Liberty collection.  It’s called Badminton blooms C  and has what looks like little shuttlecocks, reminding me of my husband who is a badminton player”

This pretty print is a multidirectional fun-filled print from the Liberty Champions Collection that celebrates the thrills, spills, and epic highs of competitive sports. The design team at Liberty searched the archive to discover accounts and photographs of old Sports Day events that were once held by the Liberty founder, translating their findings into colourful new designs brimming with vitality and movement.  This print definitely looks like shuttle cocks when you look closely but could also be beautiful flowers too.

What pattern did you use?  “The pattern was recommended by a friend – it’s Simplicity pattern S8910.  It’s got various options with and without sleeves and pretty ties.  It can also be adjusted to different lengths, creating a versatile and stylish outfit that can easily be dressed up or down for any occasion! I also like it because it has pockets… and who doesn’t love a pocket!””

Was it easy to make? The dress was quite easy to make- it came up slightly larger than I was expecting but with some help from lovely Laura it was simple to adjust.  I put some darts in the back which has made it fit much better.”

Are you pleased with the end result? I am really pleased with it.  I love the fabric and I’m looking forward to wearing it throughout the summer.”
