Liberty Wiltshire Blouse

Claire from the studio has made this super sweet Liberty Wiltshire Blouse using one of the new Alice Caroline Exclusive fabrics.  It’s the first time I’ve seen a garment made up in one of my new exclusives so that is really exciting.  I love this top – such a delicate look for the summer months.

I asked Claire about the project.

What do you love about this fabric from the Betsy Butterfly Garden collection?

“I love the Wiltshire Blossom – the colours are so delicate.  The whole collection is gorgeous, but for me, the Wiltshire Blossom was an outright winner”

Why do you like sewing with Liberty Tana Lawn?

“It’s such a great fabric for sewing because it is so soft and easy to handle.  It irons beautifully and holds its’ colour after many washes.”

Tell us about the pattern, why you chose it and how it was to sew?

“The pattern I chose is from New Look, 6284.  The design is so feminine, almost like a gypsy style top.  It’s very versatile and has options to create either a long sleeved top, like the one I made, as well as a capped sleeve and sleeveless version.  They would all work with Tana Lawn and while I was sewing I was trying to decide which fabrics I will make the other styles in.  There are just too many to choose from.  I chose to make the long sleeved blouse because it is so sweet with the wide, loose sleeve – really summery.  I also love the lace detail.  I used cotton lace which I think works well.  Despite the fact that I have not made many clothes before (I’m more of a quilter), the instructions were easy to follow.  I used techniques which I have never tried before such as gathering and facing the yoke.  It was all quite straightforward and I did the whole project in one day.  I would definitely feel more confident making another one!”

Where do you imagine you will wear this blouse, how does it make you feel?
“The blouse makes me feel really floaty and feminine.  I will wear it on summer evenings out with friends.  I am going on holiday to Cornwall in a couple of weeks and it will definitely be coming with me!”
I can’t wait to see what else Claire makes using the new fabrics!
