I am delighted to launch our two brand new Quilt BOM’s (Quilt Blocks of the Month) for the 2022 sewing season. ‘Betsy’s Bouquet’ is a beautiful Liberty and Tilda fabric, English Paper Pieced, Granny’s Flowers Quilt and ‘Alice’s Wonderland’ is a gorgeous Liberty sampler quilt.
Alice’s Wonderland Quilt: We are absolutely delighted to present you with an all-new, unique quilt design for 2022. The exquisite Alice’s Wonderland Quilt combines a variety of quilting techniques in one stunning sampler quilt which uses 100 Liberty Tana Lawn fabrics. Using a variety of machine and hand-sewn techniques, this quilt BOM will improve your sewing skills whilst being part of a supportive and informative sewing community. Gorgeous patchwork designs such as square-in-a-square, checkerboard, log cabin and Ohio Star combine with beautiful English Paper pieced (EPP) blocks and raw edge applique animals, flowers, butterflies, hearts and stars.
Alice says “I’ve always loved sampler quilts and have always wanted to create a Liberty sampler quilt. It’s really fun and interesting to make a quilt with lots of different techniques and blocks. I love the expression of creativity within sampler quilts; as time passes they become treasured heirlooms. This quilt aims to showcase the skills and creativity of the maker, who will receive support along the way from our lovely sewing community. In our not-so-distant past, women didn’t have many opportunities to express themselves creatively so sampler quilting offered a powerful way to do so. This gorgeous quilt brings together many different, fun designs in one place to create a Smorgasbord of quilting designs. I especially love the use of vibrant patterned Liberty fabrics alongside the ivory white, showcasing the Liberty prints so well. When designing this quilt I researched lots of traditional quilts, many from my grandmother’s quilt books from the 1970s and 80s. As a result, I love both the traditional blocks I’ve made as well as the more unusual ones too.”
Betsy’s Bouquet Quilt BOM: Inspired by a beautiful ‘granny’s flowers’ heritage quilt seen at a local museum, the Betsy’s Bouquet quilt combines the tradition of English Paper Piecing (EPP) and the ‘granny flowers’ design with stunning contemporary Liberty Tana Lawn® and Tilda Tea Towel fabrics. A predominantly hand sewn project, your version of this exquisite quilt will be your own heirloom quilt for many years to come.
Alice says “I love the geometry in quilts and the interesting way that hexagons tesselate together to form such a striking overall effect. Betsy is one of my absolute favourite Liberty designs and so it was a natural choice as the fabric to tie the hexagon flowers together in this granny flowers quilt. I have the granny flowers quilt that my grandmother made many years ago which was all hand sewn using fabrics from her old dresses and my grandfather’s shirts from the 1950s, 60s and 70s. She added an amazing, crocheted border as well as crochet between the ‘flowers’ so this design means so much to me.”
Both of these Quilt BOM’s are quilt subscription projects. Each month in 2022, subscribers will receive a beautiful box including the Liberty Tana Lawn (plus other fabric depending on the quilt chosen), as well as all of the instructions and templates needed to make a numbers of blocks. This builds over the year to create a stunning Liberty heirloom quilt.
