PATTERN: Springtime Mini Sampler Quilt Pattern

This Springtime Mini Sampler Quilt is a great way to explore a selection of spring inspired shapes and designs using pretty Liberty Fabric. Suitable for an advancing beginner sewer, it is constructed using a mixture of techniques which will help to add to your sewing skills. English Paper Piecing (EPP) is a traditional hand sewing quilting method which is simple and quite addictive! The raw edge appliqué technique may be completed either by hand or with a sewing machine, the choice is up to you. It does require a bit of concentration, but is easily mastered and there is no end to the items you can make with this method of appliqué! Patchworking is the ‘classic’ method of quilting and this will be a great introduction to the technique. Decorative stitching adds extra interest and detail to the design of the blocks. Your finished mini quilt can become a block in a larger quilt, a cushion or a wall hanging.

As pictured, a selection of Liberty Tana Lawn® looks great when used for all coloured sections. If not Liberty, any other coloured lightweight cotton will also suit.

YOU WILL NEED
Iron, pins, thread to match each fabric, embroidery thread, hand sewing needle, sewing machine (it is handy to be able to drop the feed dog), ruler, spray starch, cutting mat, scissors or rotary cutter.
Optional: free motion quilting foot, washable adhesive glue stick, heat erasable pen.

EPP, appliqué and patchwork fabric: 14 different fabrics measuring 5” x 5” (13cm x 13cm) each (see pages 13-20 on the pattern for recommended fabric colours)
Border fabric: 26½” x 7½” (67.5cm x 19cm)
Binding fabric: 6¾” x 19” (17.2cm x 48.5cm)
White background and backing fabric: 20” x 44” (50.8cm x 112cm)
Wadding: approx 19” x 19” (48.5cm x 48.5cm)
Iron-on transfer adhesive (such as Bondaweb): minimum approx. 11” x 27½” (28cm x 70cm)
