Lara from the studio has made this gorgeous Rosie Rabbit Liberty Luna Lapin. It’s from the book Luna Lapin’s Friends by Sarah Peel and the results are really beautiful. In actual fact, she’s made 3 of the teddies from the book but we thought we would share them over time as they are so lovely.
I asked Lara about the make: “The rabbit is based on Luna Lapin but I did make quite a few alterations. I wanted to make a Little Red Riding Rabbit for my daughter Sofia and used the Wiltshire S fabric to make her dress. I also used Eloise D to give added detail on her ears. I liked the way that the cat and fox in the book had jointed legs and so wanted the rabbit to be the same. I changed the pattern using the cat and fox as a guide. She’s called Rosie Rabbit as that’s my daughter’s middle name.”
“Her boots are in the pattern but I altered them to have a little band and button across the ankle but the pattern worked well for those. I also changed her face – I’ve got another book that I love called Belle and Boo craft books for kids. I made the rabbit a bit more like the one in this book – there isn’t a pattern but I simply re-worked the nose until it looked right. The dress she is wearing is actually the nightdress in the book. I teamed it up with a lovely red coat to make her Little Red Riding Rabbit.”
“I also made an apron out of an old vintage table runner and some pyjamas out of Danjo D. I made the pattern up for these as I was going along and am really pleased with them. Sofia wants some matching pyjamas so I’m going to make her some very soon and will share that project with you too.”
“She’s going to go in a bed inside a suitcase in time for Christmas gifting to my daughter. If I get time, I’m going to make a quilted patchwork quilt for her bed. I love all of these teddies – each one of them has a little character. I love the fact that the fabric is getting another life. Some of the teddies clothes are made out of old clothes of mine or the children’. Each of these is a really good fun make. You can sit in front of the TV in an evening and sew the bodies. The clothes are a bit more complex and need a bit more concentration but they are still really fun to make.”
