Liberty Top With A Cute Collar

Anna JP from the office has made this really cute Liberty Top With A Cute Collar.  It’s made using one of our sale fabrics ‘Poppy’s Patchwork‘.   I asked Anna about the project. “Whilst amusing myself tidying up the long rolls in the studio one afternoon and wondering if any of the prints would work for a lightweight window screen, I felt a pull towards this small geometric print with the subtle yet clear summery colours. I decided to make a sleeveless top (not a window screen – but maybe that’ll come later), so went about finding a suitable pattern. …

Liberty Boho Dress

I asked the ‘Lewes Sewing Bees’ if they would like to take on some sewing projects using my new exclusives. They were really keen and have come up with some gorgeous ideas.  The first of these projects is this beautiful Liberty Dress which uses all of the fabrics in my Exclusive Mustard and Grey collection. It’s made by Veronica Greenslade (@veronicalovingtosew on Instagram) and I love the cool hippy 70’s vibe that she’s created. I asked Veronica about the make:   1.  Which pattern did you use and why? “I was inspired by all the lovely tiered boho dresses that …

Charity Liberty Quilts Made by The Dulwich Quilters

When I took a phone call from Jenny Strong earlier on this year asking if her quilting group ‘The Dulwich Quilters’ could make Charity Liberty Quilts for the Alice Caroline Quilt SOS project, I was delighted.  Jenny mentioned that one of the quilters in her group had sadly passed away last year and left a large Liberty fabric stash for them to use for charitable causes.  Sheila Conway’s fabric stash has been put to a fantastic use in these 7 stunning quilts which will be personally hand delivered to the children in Latvia later on this year. A couple of …

Beautiful Blue Liberty Dress

This Beautiful Blue Liberty Dress has been made for your summer sewing inspiration by Gill Nicholls.  I asked the lovely Lewes Sewing Bees to use their vast sewing knowledge to come up with some summer sewing projects.  I love the results. This dress uses the Merchant and Mills ‘Ellis and Hattie’ pattern.  This version is the Ellis dress but the pattern comes with the alternative Hattie style.  It’s wonderfully loose fitting for the summer season and is super comfortable in Liberty Tana Lawn. It’s been hard to send the dress back to Gill as I’m a little in love with …

Vintage Liberty Dress

I’m delighted to showcase this gorgeous Vintage Liberty Dress.  It’s made by Sue Shoesmith from the Lewes Sewing Bees and is the second summer sewing inspiration project.  I was so excited when Sue chose this fabric as I love Vintage Liberty fabrics.  We’ve got a few vintage Liberty fabrics at the moment – see them here. I asked Sue about the sewing project.     Why did you choose the fabric? “ I loved the strong blue and green in this Vintage Tana Lawn and  it reminded me of a dress I used to have.  It was a favourite which …

Log Cabin Quilt in Liberty

Veronica Greenslade from the Lewes Sewing Bees has made this completely gorgeous Log Cabin Quilt in Liberty.  Last year I asked the Lewes Sewing Bees if they would make some summer blog projects and they didn’t disappoint.  So, I thought I’d ask them again. This is the first of the beautiful things that the Bees have made.   Veronica talks about her quilt here. Why did you choose the fabrics? “I chose the pinks and greens because I thought they would make a fresh yet warm summer quilt to use in the garden, thrown over a bench or as a …

Boys Liberty Shirt

Anna JP from the office has made this lovely Boys Liberty Shirt for her son Isaac.  It is a Walter/ Gilbert shirt for a very special year 6 leaver.  The shirt is made using fabrics from the new AW19 Aesthetic Renaissance collection. Anna talks about the make here: “As I write this (on July 19th) it is my younger son Isaac’s last week at his lovely local primary school, where both my sons have done a lot of their growing up over the past nine years. Among the many milestone-marking events going on this week, Isaac was quite excited about …

Liberty Dress for Autumn Winter 2019

I’ve made a Liberty Dress using ‘Lake Octavia’ from the new AW19 Liberty collection.  It uses the pattern by Made by Rae and is the ‘Ruby Dress’ which can be found here.  It’s a really simple project for someone who is just starting out on their dressmaking journey.  I’ve really enjoyed making this dress and am looking forward to making this in all sorts of fabric combos. It took a while to make the bias binding to edge the armholes and neckline but it looks great next to the contrast fabric. The pattern: This is a lovely dress with a …

Beautiful Patchwork & Fussy Cutting

Beautiful Patchwork & Fussy Cutting – what more could you ask for?  Today, I’d like to showcase the work of one of our lovely customers with you.  Suzanne Campion has been one of our loyal customers for years now and I always love everything she makes.  Last year, she made a gorgeous Christmas Cathedral Window cushion and guest designed the pattern for the Alice Caroline library.  I loved this pattern so much that Suzanne has made two new beautiful colour ways of this, surprisingly easy to make, cushion.  It looks like a really tricky pattern but that’s deceptive.     …

Top Tips For English Paper Piecing

I’ve put together some Top Tips For English Paper Piecing.  I’ve become obsessed with English Paper Piecing recently. It’s known as ‘EPP’ in the business and is such a lovely way to sew. For those of you who know nothing about EPP, then it is the art of cutting beautiful fabric into a wide variety of different shapes, wrapping them in paper and then sewing them back together again in many different designs.  Don’t worry about the paper, as once you have sewn around all of the sides of the fabric piece, you remove the papers and can use these …
